Talk about Love

Talk about Peace

Talk about a world full of happiness…

Sharon & Bram will release their new single with the help of some special individuals who have been recognized for their commitment to building peace within their community. The third of six songs being released in honour of their 40th Anniversary, Talk About Peace will premiere during Sharon & Bram’s farewell concert tour appearance in Saint John, NB on May 4 at 2 p.m. at the Imperial Theatre. With the release, Sharon & Bram will honour the YMCA’s Peace Medal program individuals or groups who, without any special resources, status, wealth or position, demonstrate a commitment to the values of P-E-A-C-E (participation, empathy, advocacy, community, and empowerment) through contributions made within their local, national or global community.

Since 1987, more than 1,900 individuals and groups across Canada have been recognized for their peacebuilding work with YMCA Peace Medals. This distinguished group of recipients will be represented at this tribute by Saint John Peace Medal recipients:

  • Reham Bazid, who empowers her community by hosting a fundraising market to support women in Jordan and providing meals for Outflow Men’s Shelter

  • Li Song a dedicated volunteer at the Saint John Library where she brings newcomers and locals together and inspires them to learn from each other

  • Shelley Scott’s participation in programs such as the Coverdale Centre and the west side Foodbank has not gone unnoticed and often inspires those around her to do the same.

  • Ruhamma Zaheeb, a youth recipient of the YMCA Peace Medal, a volunteer and a champion of many community programs, and has been recognized for her work in advocating for children’s rights as well as giving a voice to other refugee women.

Prior to the May 4 event, Sharon & Bram will invite those associated with the Peace Medal Program -- recipients, organizations who have benefited from their volunteerism, dignitaries and YMCA executive -- to a meet and greet event wherein the music duo will teach the group the new song. The group will later join Sharon & Bram on stage at the concert to teach the audience the new song as an example of “paying peace forward”--an important component of YMCA’s Peace Week initiative.

The new Talk About Peace single will be released on May 4 and will feature a special guest appearance by Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo). Original written by the late Joe Hampson, husband of Sharon and a former member of The Travellers, Talk About Peace has long been a favourite of camps and choirs notably for its universal message of hope, with children leading the way. Talk About Peace is part of the duo’s Thank You For The Music initiative, meant to shine a light on the importance of coming together to sing – as families and as communities right across Canada – to embrace the values of togetherness, diversity and inclusiveness.
